Six of Calgary's best boutique areas to visit and to support local.

17th Avenue SW

Tomkins Park sits at the corner of 17th Avenue and 8th Street SW. You will find fantastic shopping right along this area of 17th Avenue and directly behind the park. The historic Devenish Heritage building also hosts several cute boutiques. To see the latest shop openings and community events, check out the official 17th Avenue Instagram.

Stephen Avenue, Calgary

If you are old enough to remember when Stephen Avenue was called Stephen Avenue Mall, you are officially an OG Calgarian. Spanning 5 blocks on 8th Avenue, there are plenty of local shops to browse and larger Canadian department stores such as Simons and Holt Renfrew inside The Core Shopping Centre. In the summer, Stephen Avenue patios are a great place to socialize and people watch, perfect for shopping and lunch. Stephen Avenue has a cozy vibe all year long. See the Google street view by the iconic John Fluevog store for more details on the vibrant area.

Fourth Street, Mission District

An absolute favourite area in Calgary, Fourth Street runs 10 blocks and is filled with small businesses, cafés, restaurants and an upscale gallery featuring Canadian artists, with the playful Vincent Van Gogh bronze sculpture on 22nd Avenue. It's a fun and interesting walk to 17th Avenue, with plenty of places to stop and browse. See the 4th Street Business website for events and features in the area.

Britannia Plaza, Calgary

A local favourite, Britannia Plaza is not widely known in Calgary and exclusively serves the areas of Britannia, Elbow Park, Mayfair and Bel-Aire. Monogram Coffee has recently updated their space in the plaza and expect a line-up in the summer at a Calgary favourite, Village Ice Cream. You can check out all the shops and features in the Britannia Plaza website.

Kensington, Calgary

Kensington is a vibrant neighbourhood and shopping district that has many locally owned businesses to explore and cafés or restaurants to enjoy. The area is experiencing some major updates in the next few years, but Kensington will stay strongly community based with artists, musicians and the historic Plaza Theatre. You can see events, stores and features on the helpful Kensington Business website.
