The reality is that we cannot safely recommend any specific area as a guarantee. School boundaries, enrolment numbers, overflow situations, and lottery information can change quickly. With Calgary and surrounding communities continuing to grow, families are understandably feeling stressed and uncertain.

If you are caught in an overflow or waiting on a lottery draw, one alternative option that may be worth considering is online learning.

Online Learning Is Not Homeschooling

Many parents hear “online school” and immediately think of traditional homeschooling, but they are very different.

Alberta-accredited online programs provide instruction directly from certified teachers. Students attend lessons online, complete coursework, and communicate with their instructors through a dedicated learning platform. In many ways, it mimics a traditional classroom, students can ask questions, participate in discussions, and receive direct academic support.

The reason we mention this option is not because it is the right choice for every family. Every child and every household is different. We mention it because our own family experienced the benefits firsthand when our children transitioned into online learning through CBE-Learn.
